The historic Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables glowed with purpose as Informed Families hosted its annual Light Up America celebration — an evening dedicated to honoring prevention champions and recognizing the individuals and organizations helping families across Florida live safe, healthy, and drug-free lives.
Although the hotel’s red lighting didn’t illuminate as planned this year, the event shined bright with heart, connection, and gratitude as community leaders, board members, and partners came together to celebrate prevention and positive change.
The evening recognized several honorees whose leadership, generosity, and advocacy continue to advance Informed Families’ mission across the state. Their dedication reminds us that prevention begins with collaboration — and that real change happens when communities unite around strong families.
This year’s honorees included:
Ambassadors of the Year: Don Kress and Richard DeNapoli of Coral Gables Trust
Florida Blue, represented by Fiorella Smyth
Holloway Family Foundation, represented by Pam and John Admire
Eugene Lindsey, Immediate Past Board Chairman
Deborah Montilla, Informed Families Board Vice Chair
Each honoree was recognized for their exceptional contributions to prevention, partnership, and the health of Florida’s youth and families.
Informed Families President & CEO Peggy B. Sapp led the evening’s recognition ceremony alongside dedicated board members and longtime prevention advocates. Guests reflected on the shared belief that prevention is a community effort — one that thrives through communication, kindness, and commitment.
“Every honoree represents a vital piece of our mission,” said Sapp. “Their continued support helps us empower parents, schools, and communities to guide children toward healthy, drug-free lives.”
The Light Up America event is part of a larger national tradition inspired by the Red Ribbon Campaign®, founded to honor DEA Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena’s legacy and promote drug prevention through awareness and education.
While the symbolic red lighting did not occur at the Biltmore this year, the spirit of the Red Ribbon shined through — reminding everyone that prevention begins at home and grows through strong community ties.
The evening concluded with heartfelt thanks to all who make Informed Families’ work possible — board members, community partners, and the countless families who share the organization’s vision of a healthier, safer Florida.
Together, through awareness, communication, and generosity, we continue lighting the way for prevention across the state.
