Volunteering is a great way to make a difference and connect with others! Informed Families has developed a tight-knit community of hundreds of Prevention Ambassadors in Florida who have served and received the benefits of volunteerism for over 30 years. While everyone volunteers for different reasons, there are three motivations that drive us to lend our time:
- Personal Growth
- Familial Development
- Community Involvement
Your volunteering choices should be based on your desire to impact others, but can also help you grow, improve your connections with family and members of the community.
Personal Growth
Maslow's hierarchy of needs is divided into 5 sections, with Self-Realization at the peak. Individuals who have been successful in satisfying lower level needs (physiological, safety, love/belonging, esteem) have the ability to reach a higher level of growth by donating their time and effort for personal growth.
What else can volunteering do for you?
- Reduce Stress
- Improve Health
- Help You Gain Professional Experience
- Expand Your Network
- Promote individual growth & self-esteem
- Teach you a lot about yourself and your community
Sound good? If so, maybe you'd like to consider becoming an Ambassador?
Familial Development
Some people may want to make an impact a little closer to home---literally! Volunteering with your children is an amazing opportunity to share life lessons you have learned, teach core values and help them develop an attitude of gratitude. Our Family Day campaign is a great way for you to bring your clan together around the dinner table to create an environment of honest and open communication - and encourage others in your community to do the same.
By involving your children in your volunteerism, you can:
- Increase quality time
- Build deeper bonds
- Reinforce values you hold dear
- Create lasting memories
- Promote gratitude
- Keep your kids safe, healthy and drug free
Community Involvement
The world is becoming smaller everyday. Our decisions and activities impact our closest friends and those far outside our circles. We are all part of a larger eco-sphere and have the responsibility to do our part to help others as members of the world community.
Getting involved in your community helps:
- Sustain and strengthen its resources
- Improve quality of life for citizens
- Support families
- Improve schools
- Support Youth
- Beautify the Community
- Build your network
