President's Message - November 2023

As the sun shines on the vibrant community of Miami, a city renowned for its dynamic culture and boundless energy, we're reminded of the responsibility we carry — to ensure the next generation inherits a city not only rich in opportunities but also in health, safety, and positive choices. Give Miami Day 2023 embodies this spirit of stewardship, and it's a day where each of us can make a profound impact.

Peggy

Informed Families has stood as a beacon for Florida’s families for over four decades, championing the well-being of our children. Our partnership with parents, schools, and communities remains steadfast in its aim to guide kids toward a future unmarred by the adversity of drug abuse. This mission sparked in the vibrant era of the '80s alongside Nancy Reagan, endures with renewed vigor today.

Our goals are clear and they speak to the heart of every Floridian who believes in nurturing the promise within our children:

  •     We strive to heighten the awareness of the dangers tied to risky behaviors and illegal drug use.
  •     We are committed to reducing risk factors and steering behavioral changes.
  •     We empower children with resilience through the power of education.

In a world brimming with distractions, our message remains uncomplicated yet powerful: regular family meals, open conversations about drugs, and parents’ influential role can dramatically steer our youth towards healthy choices. And when we envelop our children in an environment rich in wholesome behaviors, we're planting seeds for a healthier tomorrow.

Our quartet of campaigns — Family Day, Red Ribbon Week, Lock Your Meds, and Safe Homes Smart Parties — weave together a tapestry of year-round prevention. These initiatives offer not just fleeting engagements, but a sustained commitment to creating educational environments that foster drug-free choices. This commitment is exemplified through our Red Ribbon Certified Schools program, which galvanizes the entire school ecosystem in pursuit of a singular vision: a healthy school climate.

On this Give Miami Day, I extend a heartfelt invitation to join hands with Informed Families. Your contribution can be the catalyst for change, the support that enables us to reach one more child, one more family, and one more school. Whether it's through a financial contribution, volunteering, or simply spreading the word, your involvement is invaluable.

Starting on November 13, you can make a financial contribution here.

Let's continue to weave a stronger social fabric, one that's resilient against the tides of substance abuse. Visit informedfamilies.org to learn how you can become a part of this vital cause. Together, we can ensure that the radiant energy of Miami is matched by the bright futures of its children.

With hope and determination,

Peggy B. Sapp

About Us

We teach people how to say no to drugs and how to make healthy choices. To reduce the demand for drugs, Informed Families has focused its efforts on educating and mobilizing the community, parents and young people in order to change attitudes. In this way we counteract the pressures in society that condone and promote drug and alcohol use and abuse. The organization educates thousands of families annually about how to stay drug and alcohol free through networking and a variety of programs and services .
