NY Governor Signs Red Ribbon Week Measure

Posted by Peggy B. Sapp, President & CEO on November 9, 2022 at 3:20 PM

President's Message - November 2022

I had intended my article to be about an Attitude of Gratitude, Thankfulness, and Celebration but the news media doesn’t cover any of those topics only Death, Destruction, and Debacle. Maybe that is why we have just a large drug problem we focus on the negative and forget how to Live a Healthy Life.

President's Message - August 2022

Over the years, it has been interesting to me that parents consistently think Informed Families is not talking to them but to some other family with problems. Denial is a trademark of addiction!

Family-Friendly Summer Activities

Posted by Informed Families on June 12, 2020 at 9:00 AM

Orginally published in Miami Kids magazine.

Summer is finally here! We are all ready for a much needed break from homeschooling, and looking forward to some fun. However a less structured day, and minimal supervision can spell trouble for some kids and teens.

“It’s hard to keep tabs on your kids in the summer. Having family rules are essential all year, but perhaps even more so during the summer. They help keep kids, especially teens, out of trouble and give parents a little bit of peace of mind that their kids know guidelines exist and hopefully will be followed,” said Peggy Sapp, Informed Families President and CEO.

Establishing family rules are important. What are your rules? If you want to learn how to set and establish rules, contact Mery Dominguez at mdominguez@informedfamilies.org or 305-856-4886 about joining an Informed Families’ Parent Peer Group.

Spending time together as a family is great too. If you are looking for some ideas, don’t worry we have got you covered. Check out the list of activities of family-friendly summer activities below.

You Could Be the Next Lucky Winner

Posted by Informed Families on February 28, 2020 at 9:00 AM

Donna and Gordon Fales couldn’t believe their luck when they won the raffle prize at Informed Families' Annual Dinner at Joe’s - a dinner for 20 at Joe’s Stone Crab.

"We were stunned. I have never won anything like that in my life,” Mrs. Fales explained.

The Fales used the prize to host a family gathering around the holidays – and the impeccable service, attention to detail and quality food at Joe’s Stone Crab didn’t disappoint.

“It was absolutely everything you could hope for. The staff at Joe’s did a fabulous job. They were very accommodating and we were well taken care of,” Mrs. Fales said.

The Fales are long-time Miami residents, and going to Joe’s is a tradition for them. Mrs. Fales described their dinner as the “quintessential Miami experience.”

Joe’s Stone Crab has once again generously donated a dinner for 20 as the raffle prize at Informed Families’ Dinner at Joe’s.  Raffle tickets are available for purchase online. Buy one, and tell a friend to get one too. You could be the next lucky winner.

100% of the proceeds from raffle goes toward supporting the Informed Families mission of helping kids grow up safe, healthy and drug free.

President's Message - May 2015

Posted by Peggy B. Sapp, President & CEO on May 23, 2015 at 8:28 AM

THE SPEECH NEVER DELIVERED AT JOE'S

Can I get an A-M-E-N?! No, this isn’t a religious discussion; it is why people love our Joe’s dinner: NO SPEECHES. We just finished our 30th Annual Informed Families Dinner at Joe’s Stone Crab Restaurant – and it was the most successful fundraiser we’ve ever had.

Thanks to our Co-Chairs Extraordinaire Phillis Oeters of Baptist Health South Florida and Anita & Ron Shuffield of Esslinger-Wooten-Maxwell Realty International/Christie's International Real Estate whose combined enthusiasm, dedication and great skills could move mountains, we raised close to $350,000 to support our statewide prevention programs, save lives and help kids grow up safe, healthy and drug free.

If you’ve ever attended our Joe’s dinner, you know that the event is fantastic, complete with local celebrity sightings, a lively pre-dinner social and Joe’s signature stone crabs and legendary service. What you have never witnessed at a Joe’s event is a speech.
